In the Shop

PATIENCE, the 1927 50′ Elco “Flat Top” cruiser that we began a phased restoration on in 2018, is back in the shop for another round of work.  Her new superstructure is starting to take shape, which is an exciting milestone in this long-term project.

Also in the main bay is a 1907 22′ Fay & Bowen torpedo-stern launch.  She came to us for an electric repower, but we discovered that at some point in her recent history almost all her frames were cut into by a circular saw seam-reefing job gone wrong.  Reframing and other structural improvements constituted a substantial increase in the scope of the project, but work on the hull is almost complete now.  Finishing that will clear the way for installation of an 8 kW steerable pod from Rim Drive Technology and a 20 kWh Victron battery bank.  This is our first project with a steerable pod, but marks our second year in a row working with Rim Drive.  When finished, the F&B will serve as a launch at Buck’s Harbor Marina, at the head of Eggemoggin Reach.

In the side shop, we have two other electric projects, both utilizing ePropulsion’s eSSA 96VDC architecture:

WOMBAT, a 25′ cold-molded William Hand Piute is getting an upgrade from a 15 kW E-Tech to an ePropulsion 40 kW inboard, powered by two of their massive 23 kWh batteries.

SUMMERTIME is a 19′ Glen-L runabout being repowered from a 5.8L Ford to a 40 kW ePropulsion outboard.  By removing the inboard, her new owners will gain significant cockpit space for entertaining friends and family.  We’ll be mounting the outboard on an Armstrong bracket flanked by two new swim platforms, making the most of the available space.  This one is bound for a lake in Minnesota, where she is sure to stand out amidst a crowd of pontoon boats and jet skis.
