The “Whaleboat”
We are currently converting a 26′ Navy “Whaleboat” from diesel launch to solar-electric cruiser. She will comfortably accommodate two for extended coastal cruising. A substantial LiFePo4 battery bank will enable her captain to exceed speeds that can be sustained by solar alone, and/or make passage when the sun isn’t shining. We are excited about purchasing a 15Kw Rim Drive Technologies Pod which promises to make more efficient use of the sun’s energy than any other drive on the market.
Classic Sail E-Auxiliaries
We are in the midst of three electric auxiliary power installations. We have completed an electric inboard on a Modified Herreshoff Rozinante we built here in 2006, a 3Kw Pod on another Rozinante (hull #1 we are told) and a 1Kw Pod on a replica of NG Herreshoff’s Alerion III. Electric is a great solution to auxiliary power for day sailers and weekend cruisers. Our extensive experience with classic designs makes us uniquely qualified to plan and execute an installation that preserves and enhances the timeless experience aboard classic watercraft.
Allegro
Allegro’s story spans more than a century of “progress” in boat propulsion technology. Built in the 1920s, she was converted to electric power in 2017. In her current life she serves as a picnic boat and ferry to Bass Harbor for her family on Swans Island. Recent advancements in battery and solar technology inspired her owners to have us upgrade her battery bank (from AGM to LiFePo4), propulsion and solar charging equipment for better range, run time, faster charging and more reliable fun!
