VIRGINIA has been in our care for three seasons. During that time she has benefited from a thorough maintenance program and her paint and varnish has never looked better. She boasts an extensive list of improvements including: new jib, main and mizzen sails, new dyneema halyards, new single lever engine controls, new raw water plumbing, new wiring harness, manufacturer serviced feathering prop and more.

 

Construction

Double-planked Honduran mahogany over Atlantic white cedar, bronze screw fastened to laminated oak and mahogany frames, and laminated Honduran mahogany backbone and 6,000 lb. lead ballast keel.  Decks are 5/8” teak over 3/8” mahogany marine plywood with Honduran Mahogany trunk cabin and cockpit coaming and cold-molded cedar and epoxy cabin roof.  Hatches, toerails and handrails are varnished teak. Tiller steering and self-bailing cockpit with built-in deck boxes port and starboard, and watertight hatch for access to rear of the engine stuffing box, etc.  Cockpit coamings are fitted with custom contoured removable tilting backrests in the helmsman area.  Red bottom withblue boottop, white topsides and beige housetop.

Engine

1985Westerbeke 2-cylinder fresh water cooled 13.5 HP diesel.  2:1 Hurth reduction gear, 7/8” Aquamet stainless steel shaft, and 14 x 10 3-blade Luke feathering propeller.  Dual lever Morse engine controls.  Groco raw water filter, Racor fuel filter, Hydra Hush muffler.  Speed: cruising 5 knots, maximum 7.2 knots.

Tankage

22 gallons of water in stainless steel tank.  22 gallons of fuel in stainless steel tank.  Tanks are located beneath port and starboard cockpit boxes, are shaped to fit the hull and secured in place with ample ventilation between tanks and hull.

Electrical

12 volt system, two 85-amp 12 volt batteries with Perko battery selector switch.  Fused circuit panel with interior lights in forepeak, galley port and starboard and over drop-leaf table.

Sails and Rigging

7/8 ketch rig.  Full batten Dacron main and mizzen, Dacron jib (app 110%) – all NEW in 2016 by Pope Sails of Rockland, Maine.  Sail covers.  Stainless steel standing rigging to bronze turnbuckles and custom bronze hardware. Dacron braid halyard and sheets, jib roller furling system.  Keel-stepped masts are hollow Sitka spruce, varnished; booms and bowsprit are solid varnished spruce.  All mast tangs, goosenecks, chocks, etc., made of bronze to Herreshoff’s specifications.  2 Lewmar #8 single-speed Halyard winches and 2 Lewmar #40 self-tailing 2-speed winches with 3 Lewmar locking handles.

Ground Tackle

Fortress FX-16 with chain and 25 lb. plow anchor.  Anchor rode 5/8” nylon, 200 feet.

Equipment

Bell, handheld horn, flares, 6 life preservers, docking lines, boathook, 6 fenders, spreader lights, 5 fitted cockpit cushions, dishes, cooking utensils, glassware and flatware.

Electronics and Navigation

2 Ritchie compasses, Intrepid standard horizon VHF,  Datamarine S400 DL depth sounder, masthead wind indicator, Datamarine S100 KL speed/log.
